I was watching the latest episode of one of my favorite shows American Pickers and was immediately interested when they started talking about an old bottle of Listerine they found. Like they often do... they displayed some vintage ads to help illustrate the history behind it. They discussed how Listerine was marketed for all sorts of uses besides just mouthwash. I instantly remembered that I had similar ads listed on our site!
Listerine as a cure for dandruff was a very common topic in advertisements (almost more than using it for mouthwash!). You can see one of our examples above. Another usage that they talked about on the show was for shaving. You can see an example of that to the left. I've never used it after shaving... but I have used it as mouthwash. If it burns as much on the skin, I'd imagine it would make a miserable after-shave lotion!
Still... using it as aftershave isn't the worst use they suggested in their advertisements. As a guy... I'm not really a qualified judge for this one, but the thought of it doesn't sound pleasant. The text of the advertisement on your right reads "Listerine may be utilized as a wash, spray or douche".  Ouch! If I'm not willing to use it as aftershave... I'm definitely not recommending this to ladies for "down there". It just goes to show that sometimes companies can go a little too far trying to generate different ways to use their products!
